After breakfast, we travel north to Ireland’s oldest pottery producer, Belleek Pottery, which has been welcoming visitors since 1857. At the award winning visitor centre we will enjoy a 30 minute guided tour. With all of the viewing areas being on level ground, easy access is provided for all. Following our tour, we can enjoy refreshments at the Belleek Tea Rooms before boarding our coach and travelling to Sligo, where we can follow in the footsteps of its most famous resident W.B. Yeats and visit the sights and scenes that inspired some of the most beautiful poetry and paintings of the 20th century. There are many attractions to explore including the Sligo County Museum & Art Gallery, Yeats Society Memorial Building and Sligo Abbey, before enjoying lunch at leisure in one of the many cafés and restaurants.
Day 3 Carrick-on-Shannon & Cruise Driver’s day off
Today, after a leisurely breakfast, we will step outside our hotel and walk the short distance to the marina and board the lovely Moon River Pleasure Cruiser for a relaxing 1 hour cruise on the mighty River Shannon, the longest river in Ireland. We will enjoy on-board entertainment and guided commentary before returning to Carrick-on-Shannon. We then have the remainder of the day to enjoy in our base in the picturesque town of Carrick-on-Shannon. During our afternoon at leisure, we will have free time to explore the bustling marinas and take a stroll around the many restaurants, cafés, shops and traditional bars.
Day 4 Enniskillen, Lough Erne Cruise & Castle Crom 103 mile round trip
This morning we travel to Enniskillen, the county town of Fermanagh and Ireland’s only island town uniquely situated in the centre of the county between Upper and Lower Lough Erne. During the morning, we will visit Enniskillen Castle Museums. Built 600 years ago by the Gaelic Maguires, the castle has undergone extensive refurbishment during 2016 and now houses Fermanagh County Museum and The Inniskillings Museum. Following our visit we have free time in Enniskillen to enjoy lunch at leisure and to stroll around the craft shops in the town’s historic Buttermarket. We then re-join our coach and travel to the shores of Upper Lough Erne to board the Inishcruiser for a relaxing cruise to Crom Castle for a private group tour personally conducted by the Earl of Erne. Our tour will include a talk on the history of the Crom Estate and life at the castle up to the present day. We will have access to The Grand Hall, Library, Drawing Room, Sitting Room and The Dining Room before living like a Lord and being served afternoon tea in the Victorian Conservatory.
